In an effort to squeeze innovative business development ideas from its lawyers and staff, London-based Eversheds is offering a cash prize of around $700 for each month’s best idea—and a cash prize of more than $25,000 for the idea to be judged the year’s best.

“So far there’s been a tremendous amount of ideas that have come out of it,” Eversheds human resources director Angus MacGregor told the Lawyer. “People are starting to look at things differently to enhance the way we work as a firm.”

Ideas are judged by an innovation forum, on which MacGregor sits with Eversheds CEO Bryan Hughes and three other partners, the Lawyer says. One idea that has emerged from the first four months of the contest is for a management consultancy program for in-house legal teams.

In other firm news, Eversheds today announced in a press release that it hired five lateral partners. María de Castro joins the Madrid office from and in-house position at telecom giant Ericsson; Joos Hellert who was legal director of the central European division at Burger King, joins Eversheds in Germany; Paul Goedvolk joins the Rotterdam, Germany, office from Allen & Overy; Jeremy Irving joins the London office from DLA Piper; and Rémi Kleiman joins the Paris office after having worked at Montespan and Field Fisher Waterhouse.
